Well........you see....... I'm old. I'm so old I remember when these were first on the internet. As a matter of fact, before the internet really got off its feet, these were called "chain letters" ... and they were actual letters.
On actual paper.
Which people actually mailed.

Yeah, so... no.
They were bad then, and they haven't improved. See how it's built off the principle that "someone forced me to do this, so I'm forcing others to do this" ? That's also how pyramid schemes work. Look, it even has a quota. Now, to throw in a bit more juice, these usually come with guilt, which is the part that really bothers me. You're not loved unless you get back 7? What kind of person comes up with this stuff? NOT a person who just wants to spread hugs and love, that's for sure.
I understand some people just do it because they don't think about it and they find it fun. That's fine.  But, are you really okay with guilt tripping friends and strangers into setting themselves up for a perceived societal judgement that they're not loved? The internet is FILLED with lonely people who lack social skills. Are you okay with adding even just a tiny bit more irrational doubt to their already crumbling self-esteem?
Have you ever edited one? If you don't like the parameters, you can change them. You can just delete the guilt part! Otherwise - you're not asking people to participate for fun, you're attempting to mentally pressure them into participating.
